Calipo Pictures

Calipo Pictures was founded on the success of the 2004 hit TV series Love is the Drug. Adapted from the original Calipo stage play and directed by Calipo’s Artistic Director, Darren Thornton, the series was produced for RTE 2 by Saffron films. The shows success paved the way for Calipo to begin producing its own film and television in house.

In 2007 Calipo pictures produced its first solo short film ‘Frankie’. Since embarking on the festival circuit, Frankie has picked up major awards at many International festivals, including the Prix UIP award at the Berlin film festival, the Audience Award for Best Short Film at the Los Angeles Film Festival, Best Irish short at the Cork Film Festival and Best Director at the Kerry Film Festival.

In 2007 Calipo, with the assistance of the Louth county enterprise board, set up its own post-production studio, with a final cut pro digital on-line editing suite.

In 2008 Calipo produced two broadcast videos for singer-songwriter SJ McArdle – ‘Blood and bones’ and ‘Why?’ Both songs are  from his recently released new album Blood and Bones.

Calipo are currently in post production with their new short Two Hearts, written by Colin Thornton and directed by Darren Thornton. Two Hearts will premiere at the Cork Film Festival this November.

Calipo also has a number of TV and film projects at early stages of development.
